Belanger is co-founder and former director of the Green Party USA. She is former director of Student Environmental Action Coalition, Southern Appalachian Forest Coalition, and Gulf Coast Environmental Defense. She was a steering committee member for the founding of the National People's Progressive Network, with former Jesse Jackson campaign director and 1992 Presidential candidate, Ron Daniels, in 1992. She was ballot access director and staff writer for Ralph Nader for President 2004. She is producer/publisher of Return the Great Forest: A Conservation Vision for the Southern Appalachian Region. She is an award winning journalist and fiction writer/author, a certified Guerrilla Marketing coach, and a skilled coach, facilitator and mediator.

Belanger utilizes psychological insights and social science research to inform strategies for social, personal, and organizational change. She has applied her skills to organizational restructuring and turnarounds, conflict resolution and dispute mediation, staff and board vision quests, individual and team coaching, and psychology-informed environmental and social justice campaign strategy.​
